An antenna is simply an antenna specifically made for use with a TV set to receive over-the -air broadcast network television signals transmitted by a TV station. As its name suggests, the antenna picks up these signals and focuses them on the TV set. TV antennas are usually found in balconies, decks, or basements. Antennas can be turned on and off as needed during the day or at night. The TV signals are then transmitted via cable or satellite to the receiver at a later point.
There are basically three kinds of TV antennas: conventional dipole, multi-fiber (fiber optic), and rotator. A conventional dipole TV antenna receives radio waves from the signal source and focuses them on one particular TV set. Multi-fiber TV antennas, on the other hand, are used to transmit signals from several sets (usually broadcasting more than one channel).
